Job Description

Asbestos Analyst
£25 -£28K per annum depending on experience
Edinburgh / Central Belt
37.5 hours per week
Annual Leave: 25 days plus 9 statutory days

Our client is a major independent centre of scientific excellence in the fields of occupational and environmental health, hygiene and safety.

They offer a comprehensive range of on-site and laboratory services:
- Asbestos management including building surveys, clearance testing, health and safety management of asbestos removal, method statements, asbestos management and control, policy preparation and training
- Assessment of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory face fit testing
- Clinical Occupational Health Services: medical examinations, pre-employment medicals, health surveillance
- Ergonomics services, including display screen equipment (DSE), manual handling, risk assessments
- Laboratory services, including mineralogy, analytical chemistry and immunology
- Occupational Hygiene services, including COSHH and noise assessments

Their team includes doctors, nurses, chemists, physicists, ergonomists, asbestos specialists and occupational hygienists. Their professional skills are backed up by specialist laboratory and information services, and a quality system regulated by the UK Accreditation Service.

Job Purpose

To provide comprehensive surveying and analytical services to a wide range of clients. Reporting to Section Head, Asbestos (Scotland)


Main Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder will be involved in the following areas of work:

• Sampling and Surveys of asbestos in buildings (Management and Refurbishment/Demolition); HSG264
• Reassessments of asbestos materials in buildings
• Asbestos in air measurement and fibre counting, including Certificate of Reoccupation
• Supervising large asbestos works
• Assisting with the provision of asbestos awareness training, asbestos briefings, tool box talks and other basic training for working safely with asbestos
• Ensuring appropriate records are maintained
• Liaising with clients, clients’ staff and the clients’ contractors
• Working within the company's UKAS accreditation for sampling and analysis, as appropriate

This role involves working to Quality Management Systems and UKAS accreditation within small project teams of asbestos site analysts and surveyors and servicing a range of local and national clients in both the public and private sector. The post holder must be able to work as part of a professional team comprising clients, their advisors and contractors and other staff.

The post holder should have experience in asbestos service and consultancy work, preferably with at least P403 and P404 BOHS modules, preferably P402 aswell.

The role will involve travelling and working at weekends and other unsocial hours as required from time to time.

Approved overtime and travel and subsistence costs are payable.
