Background

This is a great opportunity for a career-minded Project Manager to join a progressive business with ambitious plans for the future. Our client offers materials handling, logistics, facilities management and mechanical and electrical services to a wide variety of industrial clients within the power, steel, mining, port operations, refineries and industrial bulk materials manufacturing sectors. Operating as a Division of a wider group of companies which generates GBP300m of sales, the business posted cGBP50m turnover within their last set of results and have plans to grow sales to cGBP70m within the next 5 years. On appointment and acting as a key member of the team, the post-holder will have a critical role to play in the delivery of this ambition for future growth.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working on projects with an M&E value of over GBP5m and will be responsible for managing an opportunity from qualification through to contract completion. This will include value proposition, strategy development, solution development, commercial considerations, partner identification and risk management. At the development stage you will work closely with our client`s bid team to prepare winning bids whilst taking ownership of the end-to-end bid process. Once a project `goes live` you will take responsibility for managing the project through to completion.

The Role

In the course of carrying out this role the post holder will:

- Manage the bid qualification (bid go / no go) process for new opportunities.
- Manage inputs from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from engineering, operations, finance and SHEQ and external key suppliers.
- Prepare and review the commercial aspects of the bid, ensuring all services are included in the final price to the customer.
- Ensure that processes are in place to track and manage risks throughout the bid process.
- Contribute to the written proposal - both in terms of content and presentation.
- Ensure timely delivery of compliant and commercially sound bids.
- Understand and resolve complex technical issues.
- Arrange all post bid reviews with customers, post contract award.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget to agreed standards and ensure the project budget and costs are managed effectively.
- Ensure that project risks are identified and logged with mitigation measures put in place.
- Ensure that staff have clear roles and responsibilities and effectively manage staff performance on the project.
- Ensure Health & Safety and Zero Harm is a priority on all our activities.
- Effectively manage Sub-contractors and supply chain.
- Take the lead through the commissioning process and ensure a smooth handover.
- Any other reasonable task as required by the Proposals Director.


The Candidate

To be successful in this role the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

- Degree in an engineering discipline with an electrical bias.
- A minimum of 5-years post graduate experience in a similar role gained within an industrial sector (Energy, Transmition & Distribution, Water, Environmental or Infrastructure).
- Cradle to grave experience on multi-disciplinary new build and refurbishment projects.
- Commercial awareness including familiarity with various forms of industrial M&E contracts and their sub-contract packages.
- The ability to prepare and implement project plans in either MS Project or Primavera; this should include tracking, critical path analysis and levelling against the baseline programme.
- Management of the design process; this should include general arrangements, detailing, take offs, version control and value engineering.
- Knowledge of managing the key interfaces between design, construction and commissioning.
- Proficiency in building relationships and forming collaborative arrangements with the supply chain, consultants and other contracts.
- Capability in cash flow forecasting and the cost/value reconciliation process.
