Butterworth Laboratories, a busy contract analytical laboratory based in Teddington, has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, ambitious individual to join our team as Laboratory Support Administrator on a full-time permanent basis.

About the role:

The company works primarily for the pharmaceutical industry in an independent capacity and prides itself in providing a high quality reliable analytical service to its clients.

Reporting to the Laboratory Support Manager, the Laboratory Support Administrator`s role primarily involves receipt and logging of sample deliveries, as well as control of sample storage areas. The role itself is a purely administrative function that involves close collaboration with our Analytical Operations teams as well as communication with clients.

For the right candidate, over time there will be opportunities for development across a range of administrative functions allowing the role to be tailored to the employee`s skills and department`s needs.

Job Responsibilities of the Laboratory Support Administrator:

Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

- Sample Receipt, Control and Disposal - this involves receiving client samples, checking their integrity, identifying key pieces of information, notifying clients of any discrepancies, booking samples onto our in-house database, maintaining sample stores and disposing/returning client samples after analysis;
- Receipt of all deliveries and sorting them into categories for processing;


- Client liaison - acting as a point of contact for client queries, keeping clients updated with the progress of their work and resolving internal queries relating to samples received to ensure that the laboratory have all required information prior to starting analysis;
- Work with the reception team to offer an exceptional experience to all Butterworth Lab visitors on arrival, departure and during their visit.
- Meet quality requirements with respect to GMP, GLP and UKAS as appropriate;
- Basic material hazard assessment to ensure incoming chemicals do not present a risk to staff.


Experience / Knowledge / Qualifications

Required

- Understanding of basic chemical terminology (including knowledge of some of the more common analytical techniques) and experience handling chemicals
- BSc or equivalent scientific experience


Desired:

- Experience working in a laboratory
- Experience working in an office environment


The ideal candidate will hold the following:

- Maintain accuracy and organisation with a strong focus on detail during data entry processes using multiple systems in a high-pressure environment
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
- Confident and friendly telephone manner, providing excellent customer service at all times
- Able to adapt communication to diverse audiences with varying needs
- Work independently, using their own judgement and initiative to determine appropriate actions in both routine and non-routine situations
- Maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally
- Demonstrate excellent time management and organisational skills
- Prioritise workload by assessing situations to determine urgency
- Comprehend and follow procedural guidelines to ensure compliance to stringent quality requirements
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of ICT with particular respect to MS Office suite (primarily Word and Excel) and at least a basic understanding of how to use databases (LIMS/Therefore or similar)
- Previous office administration skills - data entry, client contact via e-mail and telephone, and experience using data transfer media e.g Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.
