Reports to: Cabling Manager

Principle Accountabilities / Objectives:

The role of the Cabling Technician will primarily be to act as a lead engineer on customer installations. During which, depending on the size of the deployment he/she will be expected to lead a team of up to 4 Cable Technicians / sub contracted engineers.

Main Responsibilities:

The engineer should be able to maintain an existing POP site as well as providing First Line Maintenance support (Remote Hands) to a varied customer base including working within SLAs for fault finding, hardware installation & replacement and issue resolution with TAC assistance. He/she will also provide support in technical competence, observing Our Client`s Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) standards.

Description Senior Cabling Technician A Job Objective / Mission:

- Manual labour in supporting Telecoms Installers and Engineers.
- Qualified and experienced in physically building Telecoms Infrastructure services from plans and to Quality requirements.
- SC Clearance/BS7858 Clearance/Equivalent
- Fault Finding. Ability to receive instructions (written and/or verbal) from NOC (Our Client and/or customer) to resolve outstanding issues.


Main Responsibilities & Tasks:

- Installation of metalwork, basket work and basic rack and stack services
- Fibre and cable pulling, dressing and secure of same
- Fibre and Cable labelling
- Copper Cable termination including Cat `x` and E1 terminations
- Fibre Cable termination using Fusion Splicer
- Fibre Cable termination using Polishing Techniques
- Use of Fluke Versiv tester to test Copper/Fibre installations
- Continuity, test and measurement of cable and fibre runs
- Field Installation Supervision of internal and external team members
- Controls and Manages Risk Assessment and Method Statement documentation
- Completes Site Induction requirements
- Uncontrolled when printed
- Completion of Installation work pack documents to include self Installation Quality Audit certification and documentation
- Compliant with Company/Customer Logging On/Offsite Procedures.
- Compliant with Lone Working policies
- Adhere to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and measure performance. Reports and provides feedback/support for corrective actions. This applies to internal and external engineers.
- Provide feedback on performance of deployment individuals and teams to Engineering manager(s)
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with our client`s internal and external sub-contractor organisations
- Comply with company & local standards, procedures & protocols with specific responsibility for performance meeting engineering key performance indicators
- Ensure Health & Safety and Engineering Quality standards are maintained within the business at all times.
- Develop fault diagnosis skills using OTDR testing procedures
- Owns the project when designated as lead engineer. Provide a point of contact for escalation of technical issues arising in a project
- Develop knowledge of rarer protocols and technologies and be aware of their place within a potential network design
- Perform and document site surveys or supervise the sub-contracting of such activities
- Perform all necessary installation activities on vendor supplied products and/or supervise the sub-contracting of these activities
- Understand and check network designs proposed for implementation (clarity, test and corrective action). Seek higher authority if necessary.
- Be responsible for the production of accurate, high quality project documentation
- Carry out tasks autonomously under the general direction of the Project Manager while providing feedback as required by the Project Manager
- Maintain familiarity with all Quality Systems and ensure that all work is completed in compliance with the relevant procedures
- Requires strong technical focus with ability to provide some level of personal man management


Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

- Full UK Driving Licence
- CSCS/ECS
- First Aid
- Manual Handling
- Proven track record in practical and mechanical telecoms installations
- Excellent communication skills
- Team leadership qualities
- Report writing and procedural skills
- Safety, Health & Environmental and Quality
- Proven Customer Interface skills from experience in similar environment
