Control System Engineer

Operating from modern premises in the North West of England, our client is a long established and growing global designer and manufacturer of advanced high-speed electro-mechanical machines. We are looking for a talented Control System Engineer to join a team dedicated to the development and continued improvement of complex machine control systems.

The Vacancy:

This key position of Control System Engineer involves working as part of a technical team developing advanced electro-mechanical machine control systems including PLC systems, HMI interfaces, motion control and programming in Basic. The main development platforms are based on Rockwell and Siemens PLCs.

With the support of the technical department management the role of the Control System Engineer is to:

• Understand and interpret the customer’s requirements and conceptualise the best effective solution.
• Provide control integration of equipment (e.g. vision, printing, servos, motion control etc.).
• Program PLCs for complex automated installations using Rockwell and Siemens control platforms.
• Provide general programming skills using Basic.
• HMI applications.
• Generate validation documents to support compliance, software and test specifications.
• Work as part of a multi disciplined programme team.
• Manage activities within an ISO 9001 quality system.
• Commission machinery both on site and at customers’ sites in the UK and overseas.


The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and unflappable in the face of challenging requirements. They will display strong technical and documentation ability and be willing to continually learn and develop.

Suitable candidates will have the following attributes:

• A degree or be vocationally educated in an electronic or software related subject (HNC, HND, apprenticeship).
• Excellent Software Engineering experience (PLCs, HMI, Scada, Motion Control etc.).
• An understanding of engineering and machine automation principles.
• Competent in the use of Basic programming, Rockwell and Siemens programming tools.
• Ability to work well on own initiative and as part of a team.
• Strong Time Management skills and ability to manage differing/conflicting priorities.
• Strong communication skills at all levels.
