Established in 2008, they have since grown their team to include supervisors, welders, pipe fitters, plumbers and admin staff, all based locally with customers from a variety of industries including food and drink, water and sewage, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor manufacturing and many more. Our client is seeking to strengthen its team with the acquisition of an Estimating Engineer to be based in North Shields.

The Role

As an Estimating Engineer you will be responsible for compiling estimates of costs associated with the provision of products or services to clients or potential clients. This will be achieved through calculating project costs and creating associated budgets. You will use your industry experience and knowledge to assess the material, labour and equipment required and conduct analysis of different quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers. Within the role you will be required to maintain existing client contracts and continuously seek out new clients and estimating opportunities.

The Estimating Engineer post is a senior position within the business and will report directly to the Directors of the business. The postholder will be required to make a key contribution towards the realisation of the significant growth potential that exists within the business.

Our Client is a small business and therefore the postholder will be required to have a team mentality and be willing to occasionally support activities which are outside of the remit of the role. Accountable for establishing pricing associated with individual projects and feeding commercial information into the budgeting process. The Estimating Engineer is an independent role with Finance & Administration support provided by the central office team. The role will typically require travel within the North East of England with occasional UK-wide travel.

The Candidate

During the course of their duties the postholder will be expected to:

- Prepare cost budgets and cost estimates for new contracts.
- Keep existing contracts up to date, including making amendments, providing new cost estimates, and maintaining communication with the client.
- Prepare detailed, well-written proposals for each client, adhering to relevant guidelines while offering competitive and comprehensive cost estimates, and including supplementary documentation.
- Maintain relationships with existing clients keeping a sales-minded attitude and seek out and build relationships with new clients.
- Work with the contracts manager and design team to help with development, innovation, and creativity on client projects.
- Keep detailed records of all estimation documentation, including site assessments and contract terms; update any existing contracts immediately upon agreement of new terms with client.
- Maintaining the current and previous estimation records, and referring to it occasionally for ensuring the range of accuracy, compliance, and completeness in the evaluated results
- Prepare and submit financial documents.
- Balance multiple proposals and estimations at once, ensuring each reaches the client by the deadline.
- Liaise with other company departments to maintain business development and continuously innovate new profitable outcomes.
- Reviewing the method / procedure adopted by the organization for estimation purpose and determining the scope of development in the same.
- Providing technical support to other team members regarding the estimation process, assisting managers and contractors regarding bid analysis, and negotiating the same with contracting personnel.
- Reviewing design packages, project drawings, etc., providing technical insights regarding its development, and preparing directions for estimating process accordingly.
- Keeping track of the latest developments in estimating procedures, reviewing the same by maintaining relationship with contractors, reading about current advancements techniques in business magazines and other media, visiting the site location, and meeting other professionals involved in the estimating processes.
