Job Description

Our client is an innovative development organisation selling their automotive related products to clients across the globe. Continued growth means recruiting a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer with automotive product experience to lead all engineering aspects of the design and development of assigned company products and R&D projects.

Main responsibilities:

To develop new concepts and assigned products in accordance with customer requirements, project objectives, ISO and CLIENT quality systems, through full and efficient exploitation of company resources
To maintain a high standard of communication with members of other teams, functional managers, customers and suppliers to pursue project objectives
To understand the commercial significance of projects and the importance of controlling costs, meeting project timing and customer project-approval objectives
The coordination of all Engineering activities leading to successful project implementation including:
Chairing of team meetings
Coordination of design activities (CAD, FEA, Design Reviews, etc.)
Coordination of prototype and Development Activities
Coordination of DMFEA / DFM reviews
Workbook updates (design and process reviews)
Supplier feasibility reviews
SDT support
Management of CAD / FEA data transferred to and from allocated customers in support of efficient and accurate communication and development progress
To increase personal skills in mechanical and production engineering and techniques, materials engineering, problem analysis techniques, benchmarking, CAD and CAE
To produce high quality designs of products, sub-components and assemblies, which have been well considered for efficient manufacture.
To develop appropriate design specifications and test criteria in accordance with the client’s quality systems
To increase awareness and understanding of contemporary product technology both within the company and industry wide, particularly in hydraulic mounts and bushes
To take increased responsibility and initiative in the development of the products and techniques
To provide engineering leadership to the team to ensure efficient use of resources and skills
To continuously assess the engineering resource needs both in terms of type and timing to meet the project timing
To be able to pass on gained experience of products and techniques to less experienced members of the team
To maintain a high level of communication with the customer on engineering matters related to the current projects, product and techniques to further business
Necessary Skills & Experience:

Degree in a mechanical engineering subject
Demonstrable experience in Engine Mount design and development and/or chassis and suspension component design
Working knowledge of PC based word processor and spread sheets and Microsoft Project
Excellent communication skills
